The kitchen industry is a multi-billion dollar one, and no I am not talking about renovations and appliances. Every year, companies come out with new gadgets that claim to be one of the best things to ever grace your kitchen. The real question is how many of these products are actually useful and how many are total scams? Well, the truth is that many of these highly advertised products are useful every once in a while, but few are able to be used on a daily basis and pay for themselves.
If you are in search of products that you will actually make useful and can help you in your cooking, you are reading the right article. Below, you will find a list of items that I consider essential cooking tools that every kitchen should have. And yes, all of them are products that you will in fact use.
Chopping Boards
This may seem a bit strange as the first thing to list on a guide to useful kitchen products, but when you put some thought into as to why I chose to list chopping boards first, you will understand.
If you have ever cooked, and even if you haven’t, you have likely used a chopping board. These products provide you with a sanitary surface to cut a number of foods. From meats, to veggies and fruits, a chopping board will give you not only a solid surface, but a protective one. Cutting one of these items on your counters could potentially damage the counter surface and also faces you with the potential of the knife slipping because of the slick and uncontrolled surface- which can turn into a very dangerous situation for your safety.
Chopping boards are not just used for cutting, however. After you have finished baking a loaf of bread or a delicious cake, the chopping board is a great surface that allows for you to have an elevated and sturdier area to remove the food from the pan.
Sharp Knife
This seems like an obvious one for most people, but some people do not understand the concept or need to have a sharp knife on hand. In fact, a knife with a sharp blade will provide you with more uses than you can even wrap your head around.
Cutting meat, fruits, vegetables, and thicker foods are all difficult when you use a traditional and dull cutlery knife. The sharp edge of the blade on a chef’s style knife will allow you to slice through food with extreme ease, and will also provide you with a much safer solution. You won’t be struggling to cut or putting yourself in harm’s way.
Some decide that it is best for them to only have one sharp knife, while others have a massive collection with knives of all types for different uses.
Good Quality Cookware
Cheap cookware might be convenient on your budget, but it may not always be the right addition for your cooking needs. The right pots, pans and baking dishes can help anyone to create a great meal.
Choose the materials for your cookware carefully. Non-stick coating can be useful in some cookware items, but in others stainless steel may offer a better cooking result. Do some research and choose the right pots and pans to suit your own cooking preferences.
A Food Processor
The food processor is one item that I believe as one of the most essential items to have on hand in your kitchen, even if you don’t use it all of the time. Though I’m completely contradicting my statement from earlier, a food processor is generally not something that is used all of the time, but it is indeed a necessity for some things.
If you make your own baby food, a food processor is the only way that you will be able to chop up the products enough to make it edible for a young child. These devices are also used a lot in smoothies, soups, and making dips and other spreads for your meals.
A Measuring Cup
This item will make your life easier in every way. Instead of having to dig for all of the separate measuring utensils, you will be able to portion out ingredients using only one item. This is great for when you are baking and have to measure out many different items; it helps to reduce the preparation clutter and the cleaning job for after.
